Acing the Technical Interview: Avoid These Common Pitfalls

Acing the Technical Interview: Avoid These Common Pitfalls

Technical interviews are always very intimidating, especially when looking for a new job. You have to let employers see that you have specific expertise and that you are able to express yourself properly. Avoid making these common mistakes when prepping for your next technical interview:

Not Practicing Out Loud

Every technical interview preparation must involve reading aloud. Discuss your way to an answer or to sample problems or technical questions rather than merely solving them mentally. Speaking your finding out loud does mimic an actual interview setting.

Not Knowing Your Resume Well

Ensure every project, skill and experience part on your résumé is cleared in your mind to the last detail. In most cases, interviewers choose some details from the submitted resume and asks the candidate to expound or give more details. That is why if you stumble or you are unable to elaborate on something about your resume, alarm bells start ringing.

Case: Of Strategic Mistakes While Sitting for an Exam

Do not only prepare for technical questions. Make sure to revise basic types of questions such as ‘Why should we hire you’, and behavioural questions related to leadership, problem solving and teamwork, etc. Indeed, one is also able to identify significant findings even in the non-technical questions.

Not Thinking About the "Why"

It means that when interviewers pose technical questions to you, they want to have an insight of who, with what and why you did or acted how you did. By noting details thoroughly will better demonstrate your knowledge than mere outlines. This also is a good way of demonstrating depth of understanding.

Botching the Coding Challenge

If your interview has a coding part then do not have wrong syntax in your code just because interview is zoomed. Prep means that you should practice using clean, runnable code. Gone are the days when you were pressuring yourself to type as fast as you can, now talk through your actions. There may be times when mole questions or questions about the purpose of mole is necessary to know more about the subject.

It’s important to remember not to commit these top interview mistakes, thus being able to sell yourself in the best way possible and get the job. If you would like more pointers regarding the technical interview matters please provide them for consideration.
